Résumé

In the presence of aminopterin and thymine or thymidine, we easily obtained selected populations of Thymineless (Thy-) mutants of serveral pathogenic Staphylococcus aureurs strains.

The following ''in vitro'' virulence markes have remained unchanged in the Wood 46 S. aureus Thy- mutants as compared with the original strain: coagulase, gelatinase, alpha hemolysin, mannitol fermentation, the number of precipitating antigens with Staphylococcus antitoxin, deoxyribonuelease, bacterial nucleic acide content and also fluorescence microscopy aspect after fluorochroming with acridine organge. In the case of the Thy- mutants of Wood 46 strain, virulence for mice, challenged by the intracerebral route, is pratically the same as that of the original strain. By contrast, the population of the first culture in the presence of aminopterin and thymine which contains a few Thy- mutants which are multiplying, and also a mass of Thy+ bacteria undergoing an unbalanced growth leading to thymineless death shows change similar to those we have already obtained with 5-fluorouracil.
