Résumé

Eleven species/strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have been compared as to their capacity to induce cytokine secretions (TNF, IL-12, IFN-gamma), in a standard in vitro testing system. The use of lower bacterial concentrations (105 and 106 cfu/ml) permitted to discriminate among strong and weak cytokine-inducing LAB strains. Combinations of strong or weak strains never resulted in any synergetic response, suggesting that they all act via the same mechanism. Two genetically very close L. rhamnosus strains, ATCC9595 and the EPS-producing RW-9595M, are able to elicit IFN-gamma production, but only the former appears as a TNF inducer.
