Photo-activable transition metal complexes with their ability to generate singlet oxygen, compatibility with biological systems, capacity to bind to DNA, and capability for optical imaging, have emerged as the strategic tools for photo-chemotherapeutic applications, and manganese-based photo-CORMs (carbon monoxide-releasing molecules) are gaining growing recognitions in the clinical arena of photo-chemotherapy due to the faster rate of photo-activated CO-release, theranostic potentials. Last three decades, numerous such Mn(0/I)-based photo-CORMs were developed and have shown remarkable photo-chemotherapeutic potentials, those are reviewed here.
