Résumé

This literature review was carried out following a call for proposals by the Conseil québecois de la recherche sociale (CQRS). It presents a brief survey of the main theoretical studies that approach adoption from the standpoint of “difference,” followed by a general synthesis of the existing body of knowledge concerning the well-being of children who have been adopted from abroad, and their integration into their families and into society at large. Its aim is to highlight the main knowledge acquired through social science research that could be useful for gaining a better understanding of intercountry adoption, in terms of three key dimensions of the adoptive identity: (1) the child’s development;(2)his or her filiation and family integration; (3) his or her broader social integration.
