Résumé
The most significant episode in the institutional political history of Montreal (Tio’tià:ke) since the 1980s was undoubtedly the amalgamation of the 27 municipalities on the Island of Montreal. This wave of mergers led to a renewed and considerably enlarged City of Montreal on 1 January 2002, while also affecting other municipalities in the Montreal metropolitan region. Beyond that, the scheme imposed by the Quebec government also comprised a far-reaching reform that completely reorganized the region’s institutional landscape.
