Résumé

Of 686 cultures of tubercle bacilli, isolated from patients living in there representative geographic areas of the Province of Quuebec, prior to any treatment with antibiotcs, 10.8% were found resistant to 10 micrograms of streptomycin. This rate is somewhat higher than that reported in the literature. Resistance to PAS, INH-Rimifon, INH-Marsilid and Viomycin, varied considerably, by order from 0.6%, 0.6%, 41.1% to 16.4%. The distribution of resistance to streptomycin was pratically equal to each area of the province.

The very high resistance to the isopropul form of INH (Marsilid) is attributed to a natural rather than an acquired resistance of the strains of tubercle bacilli tested.

It is suggested that periodic surveys be done in order to check possible increase of drug resistance.
